The following are connections to important elements of the film:
The Plot of the Haunter Film
The Premise of the Haunter Film
Lisa has been repeating the same day since 1985: the day before her birthday. She’s weary of being a part of the same discussions over and again until she finds a hidden locked door beneath the washing machine in the basement. Lisa’s mother is constantly inquiring about a set of missing clothes, but Lisa has no idea what happened to them and, frankly, doesn’t care.
When Lisa plays her clarinet, she hears a voice interrupting her. She once heard a noise in the attic and went to check. Lisa discovers an old home film of her family from when they first moved in. A dark figure may be seen in the video. Lisa makes touch with the entity that has been reaching out to her using a Ouija board. When she asks, “Are you alive?” the marking changes to “Yes.” Lisa is then tormented by yet another masculine presence.
Lisa later sees her father smoking after supper, and her mother seems unconcerned. The loops’ characteristics have started to shift. She becomes irritated as she sees her father attempting to get the vehicle to operate. Lisa notices a significant shift in her father’s personality. Lisa hears the voice calling out to her again that night, and sees a hand stretch out above her blankets.
The following loop shifts, and Lisa sees her father tossing things about, enraged because his car’s spark plugs have been removed. A knock on the door reveals a lanky guy claiming to be from the phone company, interrupting their conversation. When Lisa meets him alone, he advises her not to communicate with the living or the others. This validates Lisa’s suspicions that she and her family are no longer alive.
Edgar Mullins, the lanky guy, who is he?
So, let’s go back to the beginning. The home used to belong to a regular couple who had an unusual kid called Edgar. Edgar murdered his parents and went on to become a serial murderer who was never apprehended. Edgar abducted females throughout his life and suffocated them by putting them in a running vehicle at his home, enabling Carbon Monoxide to murder them. He then set fire to the corpses in his basement. Edgar eventually died in old age in 1983, yet his wickedness lives on to this day.
Edgar’s ghost seized and changed the minds of the men in each of the families that lived in the home for decades. Using the same running vehicle method, he persuaded each parent to murder his family and himself.
Where did Lisa and her family end up?
Lisa’s family was the first to fall prey to Edgar’s wicked spirit. Edgar seized Lisa’s father, which is why we witness an alternative persona for the usually well-mannered father in certain time loops. The father became more angry as he understood what he had become. When he realized Edgar’s intention, he concealed his car’s ignition plugs.
The Clothes That Aren’t There
Lisa’s mother, fearful that her husband might harm her and the children, left the home in the middle of the night. As a result, she packed a large amount of clothing (these are the ones missing that she keeps asking about). Lisa’s father, completely possessed by Edgar, used ether to knock out the family, brought them over to the vehicle, replaced the spark plugs, and used the running car method to murder the whole family before she could escape.
What is Olivia’s name? What triggers Lisa’s reawakening?
In the year 2013, Olivia and her family are the current occupants of the home. Edgar is now possessing her father, and she’s been studying the house’s history. Olivia is asking Lisa for assistance in stopping Edgar because she believes what is happening to her father is the same as what happened to the previous inhabitants. Olivia discovers Lisa’s necklace in the garage, which establishes a connection with her and allows her to awaken from her slumber. Olivia is the one who uses the Ouija board to speak with Lisa, and it is her hand that reaches out to touch Lisa through the covers.
When Lisa discovers Olivia in her bed, she makes contact with her in person. Olivia instructs Lisa to search under the floor. Lisa discovers Edgar’s diary and the key to the secret basement entrance while searching the floor. When Lisa opens the door to look for odd items, she gets a vision of a burning girl. After that, Edgar contacts Lisa and threatens to take her family away if she continues to probe around. Lisa perseveres despite her distress at watching her family deteriorate.
Lisa (Olivia) meets Olivia in the toilet and possesses her, and Lisa (Olivia) wakes up in 2013. Olivia’s father is possessed by Edgar and is doing the same thing as Lisa’s father – attempting to have the vehicle repaired. When Lisa (Olivia) comes face to face with Edgar’s ghost, she passes out and returns to her parents.
Frances Nichols, who is she?
Edger’s first victim was Frances. In 1953, Edgar murdered Frances by leaving her in a running vehicle. Edger captures Lisa in the area where he used to burn his dead victims as she returns to the cellar in search of her brother. Lisa discovers Frances’ ring and touches it, causing him to establish a bond with her. As Lisa ascends the garage ladder, she notices Frances attempting to flee – this is Frances’ purgatory. Frances is informed by Lisa that she has been dead for decades. Before anything else, Edgar yanks Frances from the room.
Woke is Lisa’s brother.
When Lisa’s brother discovers his glasses and puts them on, he learns he’s dead. He says he was wearing them the night they died and has been terrified of discovering them because he is afraid of the truth.
Lisa uses the clarinet to reconnect with and reclaim Olivia in 2013. Lisa (Olivia) notices a tape from Olivia, who tells her all she needs to know about Edgar. Lisa (Olivia) attempts to leave the house to call for assistance, but she is unable to do so since she is tied to it. She passes out.
Lisa’s parents are well-informed.
Lisa’s mother is at her side as she regains consciousness and tells her that she knows they’re dead. Remembering and feeling the lost clothing she’s been searching for brings back memories of the failed escape attempt and how no one made it out alive.
Lisa goes to her father’s garage to speak with him and remind him of what he done. He sobs, but Lisa explains that Edgar was in charge of him and that the murder was not his fault.
They have the chance to depart the home and go to the skies since the whole family knows they are dead. Lisa remains behind to assist Olivia and bring Edgar down.
Getting in touch with Olivia for the final time
Lisa re-enters Olivia’s body and proceeds to the basement, where she unlocks the hidden door. Lisa (Olivia) touches all of the objects in the hopes of reawakening all of the deceased individuals in order to collectively kill Edgar. Olivia’s father, Edgar, intervenes and knocks Lisa (Olivia) out. Lisa is still in Olivia’s body when she wakes up. As Edgar (Olivia’s father) begins to start the vehicle, Lisa (Olivia) assaults him and flees.
Explanation of the Haunter’s Ending
Haunter ends with Edgar (Olivia’s father) assaulting Lisa (Olivia) on the lawn. All the deceased girls and families come up to pull down Edgar, incinerate him, and send him to hell since Lisa touched the other victims’ items in the basement. Olivia’s father regains consciousness and is taken aback by the realization of what he was about to do, but Lisa (Olivia) comforts him by assuring him that their family would be happy.
Lisa says her goodbyes to Olivia and retires to her bed. Lisa is no longer in purgatory the following day, and she awakens to a fresh day in paradise with her parents. It’s finally her birthday, and she hugs her parents before heading off into the unknown.
And with that, the movie comes to a conclusion.
