However, before to the event’s start, the ATF hosted an iQIYI Talk with Chen Xiao, Senior Vice President of the Chinese online video platform. Mr. Chen Xiao discussed his thoughts on using technology to boost the entertainment business while also developing an industrialized video production system. Since the corporation began reaching out to foreign audiences, the platform has exploded in popularity throughout the world. In 2021, the app is expected to have been downloaded by more than 70 million individuals, with a monthly playing duration of more than 140 million hours. The presentation featured a rundown of the company’s achievements as well as a demonstration of the app’s outstanding technology. iQIYI is devoted to embracing the potential of the metaverse as well as its ramifications, as the tech and investment communities increasingly turn to notions like the metaverse.
The official Opening Ceremony was then held, which was hosted by Yip Je Choong, Managing Director of Singapore and Malaysia and Senior Vice President, Commercial, Asia Pacific, RX, and Justin Ang, Assistant Chief Executive of Media, Innovation, Communications and Marketing at the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), as well as the Guest of Honor, Mrs Josephine Teo, Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information.
Yip Je Choong applauded the gradual return of in-person activities. He shared that conversations would revolve around the theme “Reimagining TV: Vision 2022,” which aims to capture the re-prioritization, re-structuring, and re-monetisation that is happening in Asia’s media and entertainment landscape and sharing its ecosystem, in line with ATF’s mission to celebrate the best in class in Asian storytelling.
Justin Ang was equally upbeat about the economic success of recent Asian-themed programming, which has piqued fans’ curiosity. He described the Singapore Media Festival as “the junction bridging the relationship between local and international participants,” and stated his wish for more new Asian IPs in the next years.”
Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information, Josephine Teo, praised the tenacity of Southeast Asian media firms and professionals, and reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to serving as a platform for regional stories. She was upbeat about the promising future for APAC’s media sectors, as seen by major media corporations establishing regional headquarters in Singapore. Singapore’s Infocomm & Media Sector is expected to expand by 4.8 percent by 2020. Last year’s Singapore Media Festival, although being mostly a virtual event, garnered over S$260 million (nearly US$190 million) in partnerships and transactions.

Over 3,000 trade participants from 60 countries and regions are expected to attend ATF Online+ this year. The market will include 16 official virtual pavilions from China, France, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey, with over 4,500 IPs, 30% of which are new. The specific emphasis on China comes at a good moment, as Chinese media conglomerates grow their foothold in Southeast Asia and boost their investments in Asian content development.
