Although Star Wars has a number of captivating villains, none are quite like the lightsaber-wielding cyborg General Grievous. Audiences were ecstatic when he initially debuted in Revenge of the Sith, and his background was fleshed out in the prequel television series, when we learned just how cruel and strong Grievous was. Today’s essay is devoted to the character’s legacy in order to honor his memory.

Grievous was devoted to the Imperial cause, and he followed Palpatine’s instructions almost without question. He was similarly devoted to Dooku, but not to the point of betraying Darth Sidious. This statement shows not only his entire commitment to Palpatine’s objectives, but also his complete confidence in him, since he had no idea Palpatine would dispatch Anakin to assassinate the Separatists.
“I’m not an errand boy.” I’m not fighting for Dooku’s political agenda. “I am the supreme commander of the galaxy’s most formidable droid army.”
Grievous, who had been trained in lightsaber fighting, had a very high opinion of himself despite being inferior to Count Dooku, a highly strong Force user. He was well conscious of both his job and his power. Unlike in The Phantom Menace, when the Droid Army was commanded by inept Separatists, Grievous was a genuinely cruel and merciless commander who gave the Droid Army the edge it needed to become a real danger.

Grievous never really lost his harsh nature, and he publicly threatened Nute Gunray before sending him away, despite the fact that he was carrying out Palpatine’s instructions and sending the Separatists to Musfatar. Of course, Gunray was a coward, so he was terrified of Grievous, but given what the general looked like, can you blame him?
“You knucklehead. Count Dooku taught me how to use the Jedi Arts.”
Count Dooku was one of the Jedi’s greatest lightsaber users, and he passed on his knowledge to Grievous, who could wield four lightsabers at once. Grievous developed into a really great swordsman, capable of holding his own against both Anakin and Obi-Wan (although he did lose to the latter in the end). The Jedi misjudged him, which was generally their own fault.
11. “That wasn’t much of a rescue,” says the narrator.
Grievous, believe it or not, had a lighthearted side. Okay, it was mocking and cruel, but one or two of his remarks were certain to make someone chuckle. This is an example of such a statement, which refers to Anakin and Obi-failure Wan’s to save the Chancellor; Anakin and Obi-Wan had no idea they were rescuing their non-kidnapped adversary, which makes Grievous’ response even more hilarious.

In terms of significance, this one is rather self-explanatory, but it does demonstrate, as do some of the other quotations on this list, how vicious Grievous was. General Grievous was nearly entirely devoid of mercy, and the only thing he understood was violence. There was no other way to beat an opponent but to crush and torture them.

As previously said, Grievous could be amusing at times, and his mocking of Anakin Skywalker, his Clone Wars adversary, is an example of this. Grievous, on the other side, didn’t appreciate Anakin’s retort, demonstrating that he wasn’t a sport and couldn’t take a joke aimed at him. Is this, however, really relevant?
“Murderer?” says number eight. Is eradicating you Jedi vermin from the galaxy murder?”
General Grievous was also known for his animosity against the Jedi. Although the Sith despised the Jedi, they did show some respect for them (e.g. Dooku and Palpatine towards Yoda, Dooku towards Obi-Wan, etc.). Grievous, on the other hand, despised the Jedi so much that he not only intended to kill them all, but also called them dirt, slime, and other derogatory terms. There aren’t any problems with anger control there.
7. “Army or no army… Kenobi, you must know that you are doomed.”
Grievous, as previously said, had a very high opinion of himself. Not only did he believe he could beat the Jedi, but he also believed his army was so strong that no one could really destroy them. Even though Kenobi was the one having the troops here, Grievous was unconcerned since he was confident in his ability to destroy his foe.
6. “I’m going to deal with this Jedi slime on my own.”
Do you recall the difficulties with anger management? This is just another instance of Grievous berating the Jedi. Perhaps he’d be a nice fit for an NBA club, eh? Grievous really believed he could beat and outsmart the Jedi, and he came close, but destiny would have it that he never got near enough. That is why he died at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the end.
5. “It’s time to give up the ship.”
Grievous was not a coward, but he preferred to survive rather than sacrifice himself for the greater good. Grievous would just flee if he saw a hazardous scenario in which he felt he had no chance of winning. Cowardly? Perhaps, but for him, it was a question of life and death. He didn’t flee from a battle, but a ship on its way to annihilation is an excellent location to flee from.
4. “Your lightsabers will complement my collection beautifully!”
He had four of them. As we’ve already witnessed. He did, however, seem to gather them. Passionately. Okay, he had to murder Jedi to accomplish it, but you have to give him credit for being a dedicated collector. He was really remarkable in his desire to add to his collection.
3. “The horizon. There will be no Jedi in the future.”
Referencing #8, this statement depicts Grievous’ ideal future, a planet devoid of Jedi. Of course, he is the one who murdered them all in the future, and he wants to claim credit for it.
2. “What is it like to die?”
Grievous was not well received by the Gungans. In The Clone Wars series, the ruthless General easily took care of his opponents, and while executing one of the Gungan soldiers, he asked him this question. Needless to say, he did not get a satisfactory response.
